Since opening five years ago in Lakewood Ranch, 20 Minutes to Fitness has enjoyed steady growth and community recognition with its unique offering of great results with only one, 20 minute workout a week. This business has become an important part of the Sarasota business scene, and its staff and owners are active contributors to the life of the community. Over the last few years 20 Minutes to Fitness has continued to refine its message, emphasizing the importance of its unique medically-based, scientifically-proven training protocol.

“While we certainly are at the heart of the fitness industry – we are unique in that we offer a results-oriented fitness program that is far more effective than any other form of exercise, with the added benefit of requiring only one 20 minute training session a week,” explains co-owner Al Roach.

20 Minutes to Fitness offers a safe, semi-private studio environment, with each session being supervised by a certified Personal Fitness Coach. “We train a broad age range – catering to clients in their mid-teens to clients in their 90s. However, with the loss of muscle beginning as early as our mid twenty’s,” comments co-owner Virginia Phillips, “the 40+ age group understands (or is beginning to understand) the real consequences of the aging process. This loss of muscle not only threatens those important quality of life issues – flexibility, functionality and mobility; but also leads to those ‘age related’ health issues such as osteoporosis; arthritis and bursitis; Type II diabetes; and even some forms of cancer.”

In order to take advantage of the emerging opportunities in fitness and in health, the company offers both national and international franchise opportunities. “We currently have three studios in the US, and are excited to announce the opening or our fourth studio (and third national franchise), in downtown Sarasota, scheduled to open this September.” commented Al Roach, president of the company’s franchise operations. The owner and operator of the new franchise will be Hugh Elsam who is a long time client of 20 Minutes to Fitness.

20 Minutes to Fitness uses a scientifically-based, safe fitness approach known as “slow-cadence” (or slow motion) strength training, that is effective for people 12 years old and older of various fitness levels. Working on specialized physical therapy equipment, participants lift weights in a series of ultra-slow movements, causing the muscles to work harder and producing far better, faster results (50 to 59% better) than traditional strength training. This medically-based system is proven to actually slow down and prevent the physical and health-related issues commonly associated with the aging process. Each client works with a certified Personal Fitness Coach who stays at their side, calibrating the equipment for them and leading them safely through each exercise. For more information or to make an appointment for a Free Orientation and Introductory Training Session, call us at 941.309.8989. Also, please visit our web site at www.20MinutesToFitness.com or either Facebook or Twitter. 20 Minutes to Fitness is offering franchise opportunities to qualified applicants. Please call Al Roach at 941.309.8989 for more information.

Moffitt researchers making discoveries have an ownership interest in the commercialization process but often do not have the appropriate training in the business arena. Delving into private capital markets requires a solid business model. That’s where graduate students in UT’s John H. Sykes College of Business come in.

As part of the master’s in business administration curriculum, students coached by professors in entrepreneurship and finance are currently working with Moffitt’s faculty members to prepare formal business plans for their start-up companies. In addition, Moffitt’s Office of Technology Management and Commercialization will have UT Sykes’ M.B.A. student interns tasked with assisting in market research, competitive intelligence and financial modeling for technologies reported to this office. The students’ findings and analysis will be memorialized in marketing materials.

“I am delighted that Moffitt has forged this academic partnership with the prestigious University of Tampa business school,” said William S. Dalton, Ph.D., M.D., center director and CEO of Moffitt. “This is a unique opportunity for these M.B.A. students to learn first-hand about Moffitt’s groundbreaking discoveries and gain valuable hands-on experience in learning the process of commercializing medical breakthroughs and ultimately getting them to the patient.”

Moffitt researchers gain new insight into the potential value of their discoveries beyond the bench and the clinic; M.B.A. candidates are exposed to cutting-edge cancer research and biotechnology applications.

“It’s truly a win-win. We’re focusing on the best strategy to provide value to Moffitt and offer a richer learning experience for our students,” said Frank Ghannadian, dean of the Sykes College of Business.

The Sykes College of Business is one of the elite private schools in the Southeast accredited at both the graduate and undergraduate levels by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

About Moffitt Cancer Center
Located in Tampa, Florida, Moffitt Cancer Center is an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center – a designation that recognizes Moffitt’s excellence in research and contributions to clinical trials, prevention and cancer control. Moffitt currently has 15 affiliates in Florida, one in Georgia and two in Puerto Rico. Additionally, Moffitt is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a prestigious alliance of the country’s leading cancer centers, and is listed in U.S. News & World Report as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” for cancer. Moffitt’s sole mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

About University of Tampa

ST PETERSBURG, Florida – The University of South Florida (USF) St. Petersburg will host their free entrepreneurial networking breakfast on Wednesday, August 18. Speaker, and noted local attorney, John Schnackel will discuss why entrepreneurs should consider calling a lawyer – before they need to call a lawyer.

For three years running, USF St. Petersburg has hosted a monthly networking and educational breakfast for entrepreneurs on their campus. USF St. Petersburg provides free breakfast, expert speaker, networking and parking. The event is open to the public, starts at 8am, and ends promptly at 9:15am.

John Schnackel is an experienced former in-house General Counsel to some of Tampa Bay’s “Fast-50” high-tech growth companies. By choice and good fortune, he now provides legal advice and counsel to the owners and executives of small and emerging businesses – primarily in the areas of commercial transactions, intellectual property protection, and corporate law. With a relatively unique practice as an “outsourced” General Counsel, John serves many business clients as an extension of their management team – helping them to avoid legal problems before it can impact their bottom line. “As everyone knows,” explains John Schnackel, “it’s much easier and less expensive to avoid problems earlier, than to fix them later!”

“We couldn’t be happier having John speaking to our community’s entrepreneurs this month,” notes Wayne Brass, Pinellas County Manager for the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF St. Petersburg, and event coordinator. “John is a valuable community asset, and knowledgeable legal expert.”

Associate Dean of USF St. Petersburg’s College of Business, and Director of the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation Alliance at USF St. Petersburg, Bill Jackson adds, “the continuation of our breakfast series demonstrates USF St. Petersburg’s commitment to the local economic development, and allows us to reach out to our non-academic community to provide real value.”

Tampa Bay – August 2010 – The Rotator Rod will be featured tonight on DIY Network’s BATHtastic! show titled “Pink Bomb!”

This New invention, developed by Tampa Bay resident Colleen O’Connell, hit the market in October of last year and has already been featured on Home Shopping Network (HSN). O’Connell, formerly a nurse, wanted the luxury of more shower space but found the traditional curved rod, though it expanded her shower area, stuck out into the bathroom and took up valuable space. So, combining the latest curved rod innovation with her own creativity, she solved the age-old problem of a bathroom that’s just too small.

This unique curved shower curtain rod rotates both in and out of the tub providing extra space wherever it’s needed at the moment – in the shower, or in the bathroom.

Learn more about the Rotator Rod at www.RotatorRod.com.

Baby Boot Camp®, the nation’s premier stroller-fitness program, has acquired the franchise assets of StrollerFit, Inc., the longest running stroller fitness franchise in the country, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will increase the Baby Boot Camp franchise system by over 40 percent, and marks it as one of the fastest growing fitness franchises in the country, as previously confirmed by Entrepreneur Magazine (Fastest Growing Franchises 2009 and The Hot List 2010).

By uniting two of the nation’s top stroller-fitness programs, Baby Boot Camp is well positioned in the increasingly competitive fitness industry. Baby Boot Camp will support the combined base of franchisees under the Baby Boot Camp brand and systems. “We will focus on support and recruitment, providing an ultra-low cost franchise for moms”, said Baby Boot Camp CEO and founder Kristen Horler. “We look forward to providing an opportunity for more moms to own their own business and set a positive example for their children,” Horler said.

ABOUT BABY BOOT CAMP®
Available across the United States, Baby Boot Camp offers fitness and nutrition programs specifically designed to help moms get fit after childbirth and beyond. Parents bring their children in strollers as an integral part of the workout. Weekly play dates and monthly mom’s night out events provide valuable social interaction.
All Baby Boot Camp classes follow the guidelines set by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Council on Exercise. SARASOTA, Fla., July 11, 2010…Citing their collective commitment to team work, integrity, community outreach, customer satisfaction and leading retail sales for all New Balance retail stores nationwide, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. recently bestowed its Chairman’s Award to Sarasota and University Park New Balance store owners Molly and David Jackson. The award was presented at the company’s national conference in Boston, attended by 147 stores.

The Jacksons were the first to receive this new award, which New Balance Inc. created to recognize and honor independent storeowners who embody the overall goals of the brand that span from sales and teamwork to community outreach, including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure cause and The New Balance Ringling Bridge Run.

Highlights of the Jackson’s successes with their Sarasota and University Park stores include:

Escalating Retail Sales
Amidst economic downturn and an overall slump in retail sales nation-wide, the Jacksons posted double digit increases in retail sales for 2009 at both the Sarasota and University Park stores.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Since 1992, the Jacksons have been active in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, including local event sponsorships and percentage sales donations to support both the Cure and the brand’s $1 million fundraising commitment to fight breast cancer. The Jacksons work on behalf of this important cause earned them an honoree award from the national organization at the 2009 Lunch for the Cure.

Green Initiatives
Volunteer initiatives for pilot programs, such as opening the first eco-friendly, advanced green design concept store for the brand and the only Sarasota and Manatee County-based store of its kind. The stores feature recycled flooring and walls, fluorescent lighting and other energy saving programs, at University Park and in their new Sarasota location.

Advisory Committee Support
Providing in-kind support to New Balance Inc. in advisory capacities, Molly serves as the sole woman on the National New Balance Advisory Board and co-chair for the marketing committee. David, a certified pedorthist, serves on the footwear advisory board.

Community Outreach
Support of grass root and local running, health and fitness events through sponsorships, in-kind and staff support, including the Girls on the Run 5K training program and race for elementary school girls, New Balance Ringling Bridge Run, Sammy’s Run, Sarasota Half-Marathon, The Summer Beach Runs, and run/walks for the Cure, to name a few. The Jacksons also sponsor 18 local elite and Masters runners through Team New Balance.

Training & Education
Ongoing support for staff and management training programs that includes advanced education and certification. The stores are the only shoe stores in the region with two Certified Pedorthists on staff and 14 Certified Pro-Fit Specialists.

In the first six months of this year, Neal Communities had 126 closings from January to June, making this the highest number of year-to-date closings in over ten years. Also significant, Waterscapes Pools and Spas (formerly Neal Signature Pools) sold 55 pools since the beginning of the year, and 71 pools since starting the company in the fall of 2009. Pool sales are a good indication of returning consumer confidence. Additionally, the Lakewood Ranch-based home builder sold a home in the Sawgrass community in Venice on the first day it opened for sales. The new Stonebridge model (2267 square feet) is already generating excitement. Models in Sawgrass will open in the fall.

“Our sales numbers continue to beat those of larger, national home builders, showing that our formula of legendary quality, superb customer service, innovative style and attractive pricing works,” says Pat Neal, president of Neal Communities. “We’re still creating communities without debt and actively looking for more land to buy.”

The Mandalay neighborhood is almost sold out, with only one model, three feature homes and two home sites available. Forest Creek had seven sales in June and the Lakewood Ranch Country Club logged four sales. While the total number of visitors to the communities has decreased, the excitement is still strong.

“Our buyers come to us because they have confidence in our 40 years of experience. They like the choices we give them and the ability to tailor make the home of their dreams,” explains Sales Director, David Hunihan.

Already, the demand is building up for Central Park at Lakewood Ranch, which opens on July 17. There have been hundreds of email requests for more information. The company anticipates large crowds for the grand opening weekend, which will include special events in the ten-acre park.

Neal Communities is ranked #1 locally by Hanley Wood Market Intelligence based on number of home sales and #126 among home builders nationally in BUILDER Magazine’s 2009 listing based on sales. As the area’s largest and most established locally owned and operated private builder, Neal Communities’ innovative home building, pool construction, development operations and quality customer service standards all contribute to the firm’s continued, record-setting local success. With more than 7,800 homes built in Southwest Florida, Neal Communities’ honors and accolades include 24 Awards 2010 Parade of Homes, 44 Aurora Awards, five Best in American Living Awards and hundreds of local and regional industry awards.
Each year, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at University of South Florida (USF) holds the International Trade Certification Program (ITCP) to assist small business owners who are interested in exploring international markets or who seek to export, but have limited international market experience.

This year, the opportunity to learn about international marketing was given to more than just small businesses. It was given to a student as well.

USF International Business and Marketing student Javier Jane was the recipient of a scholarship from the SBDC to attend ITCP. This opportunity provided Javier with an opportunity to learn firsthand about exporting and importing and a chance to interact with entrepreneurs and industry professionals. It also was a way for the SBDC to give back to its host institution.

“The ITCP allowed me to gain further knowledge in the growing trade business market within the Tampa Bay area, the State of Florida, the United States, and around the world,” stated Javier. “As an International Business and Marketing student, this seminar permitted me to learn how government and private institutions interact to assist the entrepreneurs and small businesses in developing exporting and importing businesses to contribute in the local and national economy.”

Javier became interested in ITCP after taking the International Trade Basics seminar offered monthly at the SBDC. He stated that he highly recommends both seminars to anyone interested in international trade. He also stated that he is very grateful to the SBDC, especially counselor Maria Yepes, for the opportunity.

ITCP ran from April 20-June 1, 2010. The course included seven modules. At completion, all participants received a certificate from the SBDC.

With close to 1,200 miles of shoreline and 663 miles of beaches, Florida’s small businesses can be severely impacted by the oil spill in Louisiana. Tourism is one of Florida’s three key economic engines and a vital part of our economy. With 74 million visitors in 2009, Florida continues to be the top travel destination in the world. The tourism industry has an economic impact of around $50 billion on Florida’s economy. 500,000 jobs are created in the state by beach tourists.

According to a recent study on the economic impact of beaches to Florida’s tourism, beaches serve as economic engines by attracting out-of-state tourists whose spending creates employment and income for local residents. Impacts of these economic development spread beyond the immediate area of the beach because not all beach-going tourists stay in the immediate beachfront communities. Additionally, businesses in the beachfront communities are supplied by businesses in nearby metropolitan areas

The SBDC at USF encourages you to take the Pinellas County Economic Development’s Disaster Preparedness Survey. The information gathered will assist the state in determining how to better prepare small businesses for natural disasters. Please make every effort to take this important survey.

For the last several years coupons have been one of the most searched topics on the internet and as the economy softens, coupons rise in demand. To meet this demand, Sarasota-based Zpon.com has created a resource for people to save significantly with the click of a button. Already, the site is top of the page in its category on Google.

“All you need is a zip code” says Zpon owner Cliff Titherington. Titherington adds that he was tired of having to give up all of his personal information in order to search through a sea of offers that weren’t really relevant to his home, Sarasota, FL. “Once you go to Zpon.com all you need is a zip code and you’re set. You can search for local business within 5 to 50 miles of your specified zip code.”

Additionally, this innovative concept is environmentally significant. Because coupons are only printed when needed, there’s no wasted paper or ink.

“By only printing coupons that will definitely be used, millions of gallons of fuel, millions of pounds of paper and countless barrels of ink are saved,” explains Titherington, who was also tired of picking up piles of unwanted coupons that fell out of the mail and publications. “There is an i-phone application that makes it unnecessary to print at all. A few vendors are also giving the discount or special offer to those who simply mention “code Zpon” to receive the offer.”

Zpon.com launched in January and already features more than 100 local businesses. Shoppers simply click into the site, select a category—such as automotive or flowers & gifts and choose the coupon(s) they want and print or e-mail. Not only is it a huge money saver for local residents, it is also a place for all of the locally owned businesses to increase their customer base. Titherington says he’s proud that he created a company that helps the local business owners make a difference in their bottom lines and saves money for residents as well as visitors.

Sarasota/Manatee business owners are excited to find a new way to reach potential customers. “This concept made so much sense that when I saw it I contacted them right away. I didn’t wait for a salesperson to call me,” says Art Conforti, Jr., owner of Beneva Flowers. “I’ve long been a fan of using the web to expand my business. This was a natural for me.”

Right now Zpon.com is raising awareness of the site through television and web advertising. The $329 a year investment allows businesses to be quick to jump on board. These advertisers are enjoying an expand web presence and maximized exposure by being on a heavily trafficked site. At the same time, people who live or visit in this area are saving big in their neighborhood.

The company plans to launch Zpon.com nationally. The concept makes so much sense that it can readily be replicated. It is truly a home-grown business that is rapidly catching on.

Clearwater, FL, May 2010 — After months of sifting through hundreds of applications, meeting with nominees and intense judging deliberations, PostcardMania CEO and Founder, Joy Gendusa, has been officially selected as one of the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalists for the second year in row.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Finalists were selected by a panel of independent judges.

Gendusa’s hard work and innovation awarded PostcardMania the title of the fastest-growing direct mail postcard marketing firm in the nation by Inc. Magazine. Aside from PostcardMania’s success, Gendusa also focuses on her passion on educating business owners about effective ways to grow and expand their companies through marketing. She has also developed a specialized division within her company with the sole purpose of handling pro-bono work for non-profit organizations. In 2008, PostcardMania donated over 207,000 printed pieces and in 2009 that number jumped to over 371,000. PostcardMania continues to support non-profits of all walks of life – the only stipulation being that these organizations have the purpose of assisting mankind to improve his lot and make the world a better place.

“I am very honored and humbled to be named a finalist for the Ernst & Young EOY award for a second time,” says Gendusa. “When I heard I was a finalist, I was pretty surprised; mainly because I never think of myself as ‘the top’ or ‘the best.’ Actually, I’m not either of those things! I surround myself with them and I owe my main thanks to my incredible staff! Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Now in its 24th year, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 135 cities in 50 countries throughout the world. The regional award winners will be announced at the annual awards gala on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Omni ChampionsGate in Orlando. Regional awards winners are eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young LLP Entrepreneur of the Year national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala and summit in Palm Springs, California on Nov. 10–14, 2010.

About Joy Gendusa:
Joy Gendusa began PostcardMania in 1998 out of her home, with nothing but a phone and a computer, never taking a dime of investment capital. Joy originally started PostcardMania as a full-service postcard marketing company helping clients create turn-key marketing campaigns with graphic design, printing, mailing list acquisition and mailing services. Over the years, Joy has grown PostcardMania into one of the nation’s most effective, top marketing agencies specializing in lead generation for small to large-sized businesses. Since then, PostcardMania has expanded to offer its clients more services including website and landing page design and development, email marketing and full marketing evaluations — all while continuing to educate clients with free marketing advice.

Joy and PostcardMania have won many awards for creativity, best business practices and expansion and have been recognized on the Inc. 500 and 5000 lists. By 2008, revenues reached nearly $19 million and the company now employs over 160 people, prints 4 million and mails 2 million postcards each week, and has more than 39,000 customers in over 350 industries.

Sykes College of Business at The University of Tampa.
Seven teams of students competed. The winning entry was a business plan for Smart Renter, with the plan authored by John McMahan, who was also a 2008 winner of the undergraduate plan competition.
“Few entrepreneurs have the opportunity to ‘test’ their ideas in advance with a blue ribbon panel of advisors,” says Mark Anderson, CEO of eLogic Learning, Tampa, who coordinated judging on behalf of the CEO Council. “The CEO Council is pleased to work with these students, as well as undergraduates in a separate competition, to provide the benefit of our experience for these emerging entrepreneurs and bridge the gap between the academic environment and real world.”
Anderson was joined in the judging by John Drinkard, managing principal of Office Space Brokers, Tampa and Steve Johnston, CEO of Airheads Trampoline Arena, Tampa. The CEO Council presented a check in the amount of $3,000 to the University for winning teams in the graduate and undergraduate business plan competitions.
“I think the judges had an especially difficult decision this semester. On the whole, the quality of the business plans was better than ever,” says Jody Tompson, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the Naimoli Institute for Business Strategy, Sykes College of Business. “We appreciate the time and money that the CEO Council contributes to entrepreneurship education at UT. Through the partnership, our students are being challenged and the judges have fun debating the merits of the business plans.”
About The University of Tampa
The University of Tampa (www.ut.edu) is a private, residential university located on approximately 100 acres on the riverfront in downtown Tampa. Known for academic excellence, personal attention and real-world experience in its undergraduate and graduate programs, the University serves 6,300 students from 50 states and approximately 100 countries. Approximately 70 percent of full-time students live on campus, and more than half of UT students are from Florida.

About the CEO Council of Tampa Bay
(http://www.ceotampa.com) addresses the specific business needs of today’s chief executive officers and provides insight, education, networking and peer mentorship to take advantage of current and future opportunities unique to the CEO entrepreneur. The Council is open to CEOs of Tampa Bay companies with a minimum of 25 employees and a minimum of $3M in revenue.

As of the end of April, Neal Communities has sold more than 85 homes this year and 30 homes during the month of April. The company has 15 contracts signed at The Country Clubs in Lakewood Ranch including Silverwood, Country Club East, Edenmore, Thornhill and Greystone year-to-date, at prices from the high $200s to over $1 Million. Forest Creek, which re-opened recently, had six contracts with prices ranging from $175,000 to $240,000.

“This is the signal we were looking for that the market has already stabilized and is on a steady course up,” states Neal Communities’ President Pat Neal. “By building in desirable neighborhoods and pricing the homes fairly, we’ve struck a chord with today’s buyers. They are looking for long-term value.”

After opening just more than a year ago, River Sound, off Morgan Johnson Road in Bradenton, is over 65% sold out. In fact, seven contracts were signed in April. The Mandalay Community, located on Lockwood Ridge Road and north of University Parkway, is nearly sold out.

“We’re encouraged by the market signals right now as we continually sell homes in the higher end price ranges; in fact, our average price is now over $300,000,” explains Sales Director, David Hunihan. “These are savvy buyers who recognize market trends and see the value of building a new home that will best fit their lifestyle needs.”

According to Sarasota Association of Realtors®, Overall property sales reached 753 in the Sarasota market in March 2010, the highest total since December 2005 and more than 56 percent higher than March 2009. Also important, the inventory of homes available is at 7.2 months, which is almost equilibrium. This is the lowest level since the summer of 2005. In Manatee County, there were only 5 months of supply of inventory as of the end of March, which means a shift to a seller’s market.

Florida Realtors® reported 1,055 single-family home sales in Sarasota-Bradenton in March, which is a 38 percent increase over March of last year. The median home price rose nine percent to $163,800.

Neal Communities, celebrating its 40th year in business, is ranked #1 locally by Hanley Wood Market Intelligence based on number of home sales and #135 among home builders nationally in BUILDER Magazine’s 2008 listing based on sales.
(Lakewood Ranch, FL) Hanley Wood Market Intelligence (HWMI) has ranked Neal Communities as the number one home builder in Sarasota-Bradenton based on number of closings for the past 12 months. HWMI tracks data on new home communities of ten units or more in most of the major home markets across the country. Neal Communities is one of only two locally owned and operated builders on the top ten list.

“We are particularly pleased that this represented sales in cottages as well as country club style homes in a wide range of price points,” states Neal Communities’ President Pat Neal. “We are convinced that our enhanced technology, dedication to quality, superior customer service, attractive pricing and innovative home designs have made a Neal home the best value in this area.”

Neal Communities is actively selling homes in 13 neighborhoods in Sarasota-Manatee. The Lakewood Ranch-based homebuilder will open Central Park in Lakewood Ranch in July 2010. The company also introduced Neal Signature Homes this month to fill the growing need for more custom homes.

Sarasota, FL— Dave Minton, who has created a successful career in sales, management and leadership, has added entrepreneurship to his repertoire when he and his wife, Diane, created D&D Wines, LLC. The company represents four diverse wine distributors in Sarasota and Tampa Bay. Minton has been awarded the Level II Certification by the prestigious International Wine Guild. He is one of only 16 in the state of Florida to have earned the distinction, and he is one of only two who have completed the Executive Sommelier Certification program (a Level II certification). There are about 2000 graduates, at all levels, of the IWG since the college began in 1998. Additionally, his background as a business owner and sales executive make him a valuable resource to his clients.

Essentially, Minton has combined his passion for wine with his marketing and sales experience to re-create his career in a unique niche in the wine industry. The wines are generally boutique varieties that are hand crafted and not available in grocery or warehouse type stores. He works closely with wine shop owners, independently owned restaurants and country clubs to select the best wines for their patrons and members.

“It’s important for me to partner with these business owners and managers to help them make the right selections,” explains Minton, who is quickly becoming known as The Sarasota Wine Guy. “I like to form long-term relationships and provide exceptional customer service.”

After visiting more than 100 California vineyards and several vineyards in Tuscany, he is uniquely qualified to present and sell wines. He excels at educating consumers as well as food and beverage professionals. Both Diane and Dave Minton present wine tastings at events such as charity fund raisers, grand openings and networking functions. They are known for their personable and engaging style that entertains while educating. He can be reached at 941-356-4841.

In addition, Minton excels at planning private wine functions as well as major wine events, such as the World of Wines Gala. Because of his extensive experience, he is a sought-after advisor for many charity events. Minton’s credentials include:

Founder, Chairman and Organizer of the 2003-2006 Suncoast Wine Festival

The University of Florida developed one of the nation’s first master’s programs in entrepreneurship. The Thomas S.

St. Petersburg, Fla. (November 5, 2009) – Common Language, a strategic communications firm serving emerging companies in Florida, and USF St. Petersburg College of Business have partnered to launch the new KickStart Training Program for New Entrepreneurs. The program, free to qualifying Pinellas county residents and business owners, is made possible through a grant awarded by WorkNet Pinellas. The four-day workshop begins November 13 and continues on November 14, 20 and December 11.

“Our goal with this program is to support and encourage the growth of viable, wealth-creating new businesses in Pinellas County,” said Michelle Bauer, chief strategist of Common Language, who also designed the curriculum. “The post-recession economy offers many opportunities for entrepreneurs who can be nimble and adapt to ever-changing market conditions. This program will teach entrepreneurs how to respond to those changes and stay ahead of their slower competitors. Special attention will be paid to prospecting, selling, and marketing, because unless you can get and keep customers, you won’t have a business for long.”

The KickStart Training Program is designed to help dislocated workers who are launching their own companies, recent start ups that need help growing their businesses, and mid-career professionals forced to retire early but want to transfer their valuable skills into new businesses in one of Florida’s targeted high growth industries. It is open to residents of Pinellas County and/or business owners operating in Pinellas County, unemployed residents of Pinellas County and new or existing entrepreneurs/small business owners.

There is no charge for those who commit to attend and complete all four days of the workshop. However, credit cards will be taken to hold places and those who do not show will be billed $995. Class size is limited to 40 people – first come, first served.

Instructors and mentors will be a mix of successful local entrepreneurs, USF St. Petersburg faculty and alumni, and local professionals who support new businesses. At the end of training, each trainee will have a working business plan and a network of ongoing support for a minimum of six months.

Visit http://kickstarttraining.wikispaces.com/Agenda for more information. For questions about registration, please contact Shannon Byrne and Shannon@common-language.com.

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 6, 2009) – Divine Events, a community leader with entrepreneurial and working moms, will host the first annual Moms Reinvented conference on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Westshore Yacht Club from 7-10 p.m.

An estimated 150 women will gather for Moms Reinvented, an inspirational evening where nationally-renowned mom entrepreneurs will share their vision and success stories on how to blend business and babies.

“The more I looked around me, the more I realized how many mom entrepreneurs were out there and this event brings us all together. Moms are always solving problems and fixing things. I remembered Oprah’s show titled ‘Moms Who Made Millions’ where she showcased mom entrepreneurs and thought, ‘Divine can do something like this in Tampa and inspire our community!’ I shared my vision with Barbara and together we have created this marvelous event,” said Aly Zamore, co-founder of Divine Events.

Mindee Doney of Little Busy Bodies, Inc. will emcee the event, and special guest speakers include Grace Welch of San Francisco and founder of Patemm, Inc.; Katherine Center of Houston, TX and author of Everyone is Beautiful and The Bright Side of Disaster; and Tampa Bay locals, Katie Ryres of Silly Dilly Tot Spot and Lisa Becker of Ostomy Secrets.

“Traveling from California, Texas, and Oregon, the panel of speakers that we have assembled to speak at Moms Reinvented is extremely impressive. These women are visiting the Tampa Bay community to tell their million dollar idea stories and help inspire us all to follow our dreams in these tough economic times. We are also incredibly lucky to have two local mom entrepreneurs to share their amazing journeys into mom entrepreneur land. Lisa Becker’s and Katie Kyres’ stories will make this night really hit home for all of us. Our own two local entrepreneurs might just live next door to you!” said Zamore.

Divine Events has established itself as the go-to place for moms and moms-to-be who want to be in the know, connect with other mom entrepreneurs and serve as a resource and support to women who are combining the unique worlds of business and babies. Business partners and sponsors have an opportunity to reach an exclusive female consumer demographic who strives to achieve balance between working business owner and/or professional and motherhood. Recognizing the uniqueness and challenges that come with being a new mom trying to incorporate pre-baby aspects of life, Divine Events provides a variety of activities that attract working women and moms-to-be. Divine Events offers functions that are a ladies day or night out, as well as child-friendly functions.

The Moms Reinvented conference on Oct. 17 at the Westshore Yacht Club, will enable and inspire entrepreneurial-minded mothers to start their own businesses. The dynamic program will include a full course dinner, drinks, high-end raffle prizes as well as a Las Vegas-style fundraising element after the presentation. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.

Tickets to Moms Reinvented, presented by Divine Events, are $75 and available online by visiting: www.TampaMomsReinvented.com or by calling 813-391-4800. For more information regarding Divine Events, please contact: Nancy Vaughn at nancy@whitebookagency.com or 813-994-9807.

About Divine Events

TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 10, 2009) – Mike Mayo, owner of Golden Vision Photography, has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Tampa Bay Small Business Jumpstart contest and will receive over $26K in pro bono business start up services.

Mayo will be formally congratulated at a reception on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. at his new office location at 3111 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd, Ste. 100, Tampa, FL 33607 (in the Tampa Bay Office park at Himes & MLK Blvd).

Mayo, who lost his job with Vermont-based coffee manufacturer in May 2009 due to an economically-motivated decision to eliminate his position, is launching a mobile pet photography studio (www.goldenvisionphotos.com). With a keen interest in photography and a love of animals, Mike is excited to bring his talents and passion to pet owners throughout Tampa Bay.

“I am very honored to be selected as the winner of the Tampa Jumpstart contest,” Mayo said. “I was proceeding with my business plans, either way, but the boost I will receive from these generous companies is more than I really could have hoped for. It will make a significant difference in the upstart of my new company.”

According to Julie Heidelberg of Heidelberg PR, a contributor to the Tampa Jumpstart program, “The Jumpstart team unanimously agreed that Golden Vision Photography has high potential for success, and we wanted to make sure our finalists, and ultimately our winner, were people with viable business plans. Having gone through it ourselves, we had some perspective on what that type of plan would look like. We’re thrilled to be helping Mike.”

Through his photography business and interaction with pet owners, Mike also hopes to educate people about therapy dogs, as he and his wife are handlers for their certified therapy dog, Lexi. They take Lexi to nursing homes, hospitals, children’s homes and schools to bring happiness and joy only the unconditional love of a dog can bring to people who need company and affection.

Initially, Golden Vision Photography will be booking appointments at various pet-oriented businesses on weekends. For more information or to set an appointment, call 813-350-7855 or 813-748-4476.

Contest runner-ups were Benjamin Justice, with www.SoUnemployed.com, and Christine Heynysh of G-C Industries, LLC (www.G-CIndustries.com).

About Tampa Bay Small Business Jumpstart
Eight Tampa business entities contributed to the Tampa Bay Small Business Jumpstart contest, creating a package of services that includes internet marketing and web site development, on-site IT support, a public relations campaign, office space and receptionist support for nine months, start-up accounting services, life coaching, printing services and ongoing business planning and counseling.

To qualify for the Tampa Jumpstart contest, aspiring entrepreneurs were required to meet two primary criteria:
• They lost their job due to the economic crunch (laid off, downsized, etc)
• They were not looking for a new job with another company or organization, but instead, were pursuing the development of their own new company.

Tampa Bay, August 3, 2009 – For every report that the economic crisis is here to end, you can find a report that says it is here to stay. So what is the truth? Discouraged by the economic crisis, entrepreneurs are becoming paralyzed; something Patrick Valtin found was not just particular to Americans. Valtin, a successful entrepreneur and international business coach, found that from Budapest to the American shores, business owners were clamoring for real-time advice from businesses that were persisting despite the economic crisis. Valtin decided to join forces with other some local successful entrepreneurs, kicking off his Crisis Buster US Tour on September 19 & 20 from PostcardMania, a successful national direct-mail marketing firm founded by Joy Gendusa.

The Crisis Buster Seminar will cover:

·         Secrets about the economic crisis;
·         New market rules – why traditional marketing and sales strategies are doomed, and what rules apply now;
·         A new era of selling – forget the old tricks of the trade; your biggest challenge today is NOT to sell;
·         Simple but powerful rules of Internet marketing that can help you boost your direct sales results and your income, at low cost and without technical hassle;
· The new rules of financial success – find out what you can do now to create financial freedom and certainty – no matter where Wall Street goes…

Valtin is no stranger to success nor recessions. Having been through 6 in his lifetime, he has still managed to own one of the fastest-expanding consulting firms in Europe, called U-Man. After moving off his position of Executive Director to come back to America to start his US-based firm M2-Tec, he continued his sought-after speaking engagements around the world, coaching businesses on how to expand in tough competitive markets. After training over 75,000 people in 27 countries for well over 22 years as a business coach, Patrick Valtin’s response to the repeated similar reactions of his clients was to compile his top 15 tips in an eBook titled Crisis Buster to give out tried-and-true methods he found works in any economy. Valtin is also giving away 1,000,000 of his eBooks to help disseminate these successful tips.

“The biggest thing people are asking for are tips from those that are doing well,” said Patrick, “which is why I am joining forces with other entrepreneurs that can help impart their own useful advice.”

Pat Clouden, founder of Consumer Energy Solutions, Inc. and Christopher Music, Founder of Wealth Advisory Associates will also be speaking at the Crisis Buster seminar, along with Joy Gendusa, on September 19 & 20.

For more information about the Crisis Buster seminar visit www.m2-tec.com/Events.

About Patrick Valtin:
Patrick Valtin has been in the training/coaching business for over 22 years. Called “Mr. Crisis Buster” by clients across the globe, he has personally trained over 75,000 people in 27 countries on the subjects of sales, sales management, recruitment, marketing strategies, leadership and personal efficiency. A former Executive Director of the Hubbard College of Administration International in Los Angeles, he remains a founding member of its advisory board. He currently manages his US company M2-Tec USA, Inc.

Patrick wrote the e-book “CRISIS BUSTER” as a response to his observation of many business owners’ reaction to economic crises and very tough & competitive environments. His long-term experience as a coach/trainer led him to demonstrate more than once that success should NOT depend on economic conditions. His motto has always been: “Whatever the environment throws at you, you can take it as a threat… or as an opportunity!” The research compiled in his e-book is not about theoretical, esoteric ideas but only applicable, down-to-earth principles which you can use right away – and win, no matter what!

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) June 18, 2009 – Economists know that entrepreneurship will drive the economy back to health, but many people may be surprised to learn that the baby boom generation is behind the wheel, according to a new study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

The study, “The Coming Entrepreneurship Boom,” found that several facts have emerged in the course of Kauffman Foundation research that indicate the United States might be on the cusp of an entrepreneurship boom—not in spite of an aging population but because of it. These factors include the shifting age distribution of the country, the continued decline of lifetime employment, the experience and tacit knowledge such employees carry with them, and the effects of the 2008-2009 recession on established sectors of the economy. The study follows research from Duke University’s Vivek Wadhwa, also published by the Foundation, which found that the average age of U.S.-born technology founders when they started their companies was 39.

“The fact that the largest age group of our population is also the most entrepreneurial bodes well for the United States’ economic future,” said Robert E. Litan, vice president of Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation. “This study shows how several other emerging trends, from job tenure to regulatory changes due to the current recession, should facilitate entrepreneurship in coming years.” Contrary to popularly held assumptions, it turns out that over the past decade or so, the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to the 55-64 age group. The 20-34 age bracket, meanwhile, which is usually identified with swashbuckling and risk-taking youth (think Facebook and Google), has the lowest. Perhaps most surprising, this disparity occurred in the 11 years around the dot-com boom—when the young entrepreneurial upstart became a cultural icon.

Other key findings include:

    * While people under 30 have historically jumped from job to job, the most striking development today has been the deep drop in the incidence of “lifetime” jobs among men over age 50. Long-term employment has fallen dramatically for people ages 35-64 over the past 50 years.
* With longer life expectancies and greater health in later life, older generations may continue to start new firms—or mentor young entrepreneurs.
* Since the first Internet-era recession, transaction costs and barriers to entry have fallen for entrepreneurs of every age.

Dane Stangler, senior analyst at the Kauffman Foundation and author of the study, says these trends may continue through the current recession. “The very idea of ‘too-big-to-fail’ institutions has been permanently damaged,” he writes. “Recent economic trends—away from lifetime jobs and toward more and more new companies—will thus gain even greater cultural traction.”

Tampa, FL – May 8, 2009 – Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX), pioneers in the field of deep-ocean shipwreck exploration, today filed a quarterly report with the Securities and Exchange Commission detailing results of the Company’s first quarter 2009.

For the first quarter of 2009, Odyssey reported revenues of $0.6 million, compared to $0.3 million in the first quarter 2008. The Company also reported a net loss of $5.3 million, compared to a net loss of $6.8 million in 2008. The net loss per share for the first quarter was $0.10, compared to a net loss of $0.14 per share in the first quarter 2008.

“The first quarter of 2009 was an interesting and exciting time for Odyssey. We had a full plate with events as diverse as the US season premiere of Discovery Channels 12-episode series “Treasure Quest” in January, followed by the announcement of our discovery of Balchins HMS Victory in February, and the Ringing of the Opening Bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite in March. In addition, the Odyssey Explorer was busy working in the “Atlas” area, and we had excellent weather for this time of year, which enabled us to cover a lot of ground. We are very excited about the momentum we have built in both operations and brand recognition. With some new search technology we have added to the Explorer and the renewal of our deal with Discovery Channel, we are looking forward to a productive 2009,” said Greg Stemm, Odysseys Chief Executive Officer.

FIRST QUARTER 2009 RESULTS

Revenue

The increase in revenue of $0.3 million is primarily related to an increase of over 500 more silver coins sold in 2009 versus 2008 largely attributed to the increase of distributors in our global distribution network. Distributor sales activities were bolstered by the tremendous brand awareness in the period as a result of the announcement of the discovery of HMS Victory, the launch of “Treasure Quest” on Discovery Channel, and the continued run of SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure (the Companys traveling attraction) at Science Museum Oklahoma.

Expenses

Marketing, general and administrative expenses were $2.7 million in 2009 as compared to $3.3 million in 2008. The decrease of $0.6 million was primarily attributable to lower employee-related expenses including contract labor, bonus accruals and share-based compensation.

Operations and research expenses primarily include all costs within the following departments: Archaeology, Conservation, Research, and Marine Operations, which include all vessel operations. Operations and research expenses were $3.0 million in 2009 as compared to $3.8 million in 2008. The $0.8 million decrease was primarily due to lower vessel operating expenses attributable to lower vessel repairs and maintenance.

QUARTERLY OPERATIONAL UPDATE

We have numerous shipwreck projects in various stages of development around the world. In order to protect the identities of the targets of our planned search or recovery operations, in some cases we will defer disclosing specific information relating to our projects until we have located a shipwreck or shipwrecks of interest and determined a course of action to protect our property rights.

Additional information regarding projects discussed herein may be found in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2008. Projects with status updates since this report was filed are discussed below. The company may have other projects in various stages of planning or execution that may not be disclosed for security or legal reasons until considered appropriate by management.

“Atlas” Search Project

The “Atlas” project encompasses a minimum of five high-value targets within a search area covering more than 6,000 square miles. Based on work completed during past “Atlas” seasons, three sites within the “Atlas” search area, including HMS Victory, are the subject of Admiralty arrests filed by Odyssey.

Operations for the 2009 “Atlas” season commenced in February 2009 with the 251 Odyssey Explorer conducting search and inspection operations. In addition to search and inspection technology used in the past, our teams have integrated new technologies into the ZEUS platform which are expected to enhance inspection capabilities. A JWM Productions camera crew is currently on board the Odyssey Explorer filming activities for an anticipated second season of “Treasure Quest” for Discovery Channel.

The Ocean Alert or other chartered vessels may be utilized for operations during the course of the year as deemed appropriate by management.

HMS Victory Project

We discovered and conducted a preliminary investigation of the shipwreck of Admiral Balchins HMS Victory (which sank in 1744) during our 2008 “Atlas” season. HMS Victory was the inspiration and direct predecessor to Nelsons Victory and was the mightiest and most technically advanced vessel of her age.

Odyssey has been cooperating closely with the UK Ministry of Defence (the “MOD”) on the HMS Victory project, and all activities at the site, including the recovery of two bronze cannon, have been conducted in accordance with protocols agreed to by the MOD and Royal Navy officials.

The Victory discovery was announced publicly February 2, 2009 and since that date, various departments within the UK Government have been reviewing data from the site and Odysseys proposed agreement to the UK Government for the archaeological excavation of HMS Victory. The proposed agreement is similar to the Odyssey/UK Sussex Partnering Agreement. Research and discussion are ongoing.

Although the UK is not a signatory to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) Convention for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage (CPUCH) and therefore not bound by CPUCH, Odysseys proposed agreement is consistent with the archaeological principles of CPUCH.

North Carolina Project

Shipwreck exploration firm Intersal Inc. has received a renewal of its exploration permit from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources for a site off the coast of North Carolina and additional surrounding areas, some of which correlate with Odyssey’s “Firefly” shipwreck project. Odyssey has an agreement with Intersal, Inc. to pursue operations under this permit and to share in substantial research and data acquired by Intersal over the years relating to the target shipwreck and the work completed to date in the permit area.

The area covered by this permit and arrest is located near Odyssey’s current “Firefly” project, which was acquired by Odyssey from BDJ Discovery Group in 2007 and includes one arrested site that has already produced a small number of gold and silver artifacts. The Intersal site and permit area may also be related to the high-value, Colonial-era merchant vessel believed to be located in the area. The agreements with BDJ and Intersal are similar but separate and the areas do not overlap.

Plans are being developed to resume work in both areas in 2009.

About Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc.

Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX) is engaged in the exploration of deep-ocean shipwrecks and uses innovative methods and state-of-the-art technology to conduct extensive search and archaeological recovery operations around the world. In May 2007, the Company announced the historic deep-ocean treasure recovery of over 500,000 silver and gold coins, weighing 17 tons, from a Colonial era site code-named “Black Swan.” In February 2009, Odyssey announced the discovery of Balchin’s HMS Victory. The Company also has other shipwreck projects in various stages of development around the world.

Odyssey offers various ways to share in the excitement of deep-ocean exploration by making shipwreck treasures and artifacts available to collectors, the general public and students through its webstore, exhibits, books, television, merchandise, and educational programs.
