Florida’s CFO Hosts Free Business Finance Workshops at USF in Honor of Women’s Small Business Month
Tampa Fla.— (October) Jeff Atwater, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, offers free financial workshops from Jacksonville to Fort Lauderdale to aide women business owners as the economy forces them to do more with less. The event stops at the University of South Florida Friday, Oct. 21 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
In addition to the resources offered by the Department of Financial Services, the Small Business Development Center at University of South Florida (SBDC at USF), is participating to provide technical information and tools to maximize the financial foundation for women-owned businesses.
“Many business owners either don’t know about the advantages of becoming certified as
women or minority-owned businesses or they need assistance navigating bidding, soliciting and marketing to government agencies, corporations and subcontractors,” said SBDC at USF Assistant Director Yanina Rosario.
A prime example of this is SBDC clients, Beatriz and Roberto Cardona, who run a Sign-a-Rama franchise in Wesley Chapel. The owners first came to the SBDC’s women and minority-owned business seminar and later began utilizing the free business consulting services. Now the business is certified, operates a 1400 sq. foot space and is adding new employees.
“People just aren’t familiar with every aspect associated with operating a new business or growing an existing one,” said Ms. Cardona. “In addition to certifications we had specific questions in regards to structuring business taxes, payroll responsibilities, marketing and financing. It’s great to have these resources for free.”
The Your Money Matters workshops’ easy-to-understand training will empower participants to make better decisions to increase their bottom line and, in turn, help the overall economy.
