SARASOTA, FLA. – The School Board of Sarasota County’s new $31.8 million Sarasota County Technical Institute designed by SchenkelShultz Architecture, Sarasota, received an Award of Merit (K-12 Education Category) at ENR Southeast magazine’s “2011 Best Projects” Awards presented in Orlando. The firm and the newly-constructed facility were previously showcased in the July 2011 issue of School Planning & Management magazine. Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc., Sarasota, served as Construction Manager for the project. Heralded as the largest new facility of its kind in the Southeast, the 198,454-square-foot facility is the second of three phases designed by SchenkelShultz at the 52-acre Sarasota Technical Center campus. Partnered with the neighboring $16.5 million, 73,370-square-foot Suncoast Polytechnical High School, the new technical center blends polytechnical and technical education on one campus and offers 11th and 12th grade students an opportunity for hands-on learning before setting out into the real world.
